Dairy Free Coffee Gives Rise to Vitamin Deficiency

In a report published in the Sunday Times on 31st December, 2023, it was stated that scientists fear a rise in poor nutrition due to dairy-free milk in coffee-shops’ drinks.

According to Starbucks, the UK is the “alt-milk”  capital of Europe.  Non-dairy alternatives in coffee is up by 16% of their drink sales this year.  More than anywhere else on the continent.

Vitamin deficient hospital admissions have increased threefold in 2022/3 compared to 2013/4.  Some of these figures can relate to food poverty and the increase of plant-based intake, but some can be attributed to using alternative dairy products such as oat, almond, soya and rice milk.

Dairy milk contains more protein, vitamins B2 and B12, iron, magnesium and iodine.  So if alt-milk is your alternative choice to dairy milk, ensure you take supplements to maintain a healthy dietary lifestyle.
